DMCC Free Zone

What Is DMCC Free Zone?

DMCC was established in 2002 by the Government of Dubai to make the emirate a global hub for commodities trade. What started with gold, diamonds, and precious metals now spans over 2,000 activities across 20+ sectors.

The free zone is based in Jumeirah Lake Towers, one of the most connected business districts in Dubai. Two metro stations, two airports, and major highway access make it easy to reach from anywhere.

DMCC hosts 25,000+ companies from 180+ countries and accounts for 15% of Dubai's foreign direct investment and 7% of its GDP. It is a 9-time Global Free Zone of the Year winner by FT fDi Magazine.

Member companies get access to the Dubai Diamond Exchange, DMCC Crypto Centre, Tea Centre, Coffee Centre, and a community of over 100,000 people living and working in JLT.

Legal Structures

DMCC Company Structure Options

The right structure depends on your shareholder count and whether you want a new legal entity or an extension of an existing business. The FZCO naming rule introduced in January 2025 now applies to all companies, new and existing, following the June 2026 compliance deadline.

Free Zone Establishment (FZE)

  • Ideal for solo founders and sole investors
  • Full limited liability protection
  • Separate legal entity from the owner
  • Minimum share capital may apply
  • Simple governance, full ownership control

Free Zone Company (FZCO)

  • Suitable for joint ventures and partnerships
  • Flexible shareholding arrangement
  • Separate legal personality from shareholders
  • Limited liability for all shareholders
  • All FZCOs must now carry FZCO in the registered company name

How Much Does a DMCC Company Setup Cost?

DMCC is a premium free zone and prices like one. You are paying for brand recognition, a strict regulatory framework, and the strongest banking acceptance in the UAE. If none of those matter, a cheaper zone serves you better.

License Only

AED 15,000 to 35,000/year

Covers the trade license fee only. Cost varies by activity type and the number of categories selected. Office and visa fees are additional.

Flexi-Desk Package

AED 35,000 to 60,000/year

Includes your trade license, a flexi-desk workspace in JLT, and a basic visa allocation of 3 to 4 slots. The most common starting point for new DMCC companies.

Private Office Setup

AED 60,000 to 150,000+/year

Includes your license, a dedicated office in JLT, and a higher visa quota. Cost scales with office size, building location, and staff headcount.

What Affects Your Total DMCC Setup Cost?

  • Business Activity

Regulated activities like crypto, financial services, or food trading require additional approvals and fees beyond the base license cost. Standard trading and service activities are the most affordable.

  • Office Type

Flexi-desks start around AED 15,000 to 25,000 per year. Private offices in JLT towers range from AED 35,000 to over AED 500,000 depending on size and building.

  • Visa Processing

Each visa adds AED 3,500 to 6,000 covering the entry permit, medical test, and Emirates ID. Your visa quota is tied directly to your office type and size.

  • Activity Categories

DMCC allows multiple related activities under one license. Adding activities from a different license category requires a separate license at AED 20,265 per year.

  • Annual Renewal

Budget 60 to 80% of your first-year cost for renewal. That covers the trade license, office lease, the mandatory annual audit, and corporate tax filing.

Process

How to Set Up a Company in DMCC

DMCC has one of the most digital and streamlined setup processes among UAE free zones. Most of the registration steps can be completed online. Here is what happens at each stage, from application to open bank account.

Day 1

Choose Your Business Activity and Legal Structure

Select from over 2,000 approved DMCC activities. Decide between an FZE, FZCO, or Branch Office based on your ownership setup and long-term plan.

Day 1 to 2

Reserve Your Trade Name

Submit your preferred company name through the DMCC online portal. Names must be unique, follow DMCC naming rules, and include the correct legal suffix. FZCOs registered from January 2025 must include FZCO in the name.

Day 2 to 3

Submit Your Application and Documents

Upload shareholder passports, proof of address, Articles of Association, and any corporate documents if a company is a shareholder. Pay the initial application fee of approximately AED 1,035 at this stage.

Day 3 to 5

Receive Provisional Approval and Pay Fees

DMCC reviews your application and issues a provisional approval. You then pay the full license and registration fees to proceed.

Day 5 to 7

Sign Documents and Receive Your License

Sign the legal documents, finalize your office lease, and receive your DMCC trade license and full company kit including share certificates and company seal.

2 to 4 Weeks

Visa and Emirates ID Processing

Apply for UAE residence visas for investors, employees, and dependants. This includes the establishment card, entry permits, medical testing, biometrics, and Emirates ID issuance.

2 to 6 Weeks

Open Your Corporate Bank Account

Prepare your banking documents and get introduced to suitable UAE banks. DMCC companies are generally well received by major UAE and international banks, though approval timelines vary.

Visa & Immigration

How Do DMCC Residence Visas Work?

A valid DMCC license and office lease let your company sponsor UAE residence visas. How many depends on office type and floor area.

A flexi-desk typically supports 3 to 4 visa slots. Private offices unlock higher quotas based on floor area. Larger setups can sponsor significantly more employees and dependants.

Riz & Mona Consultancy handles the full visa journey for DMCC clients. From setting up your establishment card through to Emirates ID collection, every government interaction is managed on your behalf.

A physical visit to the UAE is required for the medical fitness test and biometric registration. All other steps in the process are handled remotely by our team.

  • Investor or partner visa, 3 years, renewable
  • Employee work visa, 2 or 3 year term
  • Dependent visa for spouse and children
  • Emirates ID registration for all visa holders
  • Health insurance support, mandatory
  • Golden Visa guidance, 5 or 10 year term
  • Visa renewal and cancellation management

Important Visa Notice

Visa approvals and conditions are determined by UAE immigration authorities and may change without notice. Riz & Mona Consultancy handles the full process.
