Free Zone Overview

What Is Fujairah Free Zone?

Fujairah Free Zone sits directly beside the Port of Fujairah, the world's largest bunkering facility and the UAE's second largest container terminal. For trade and logistics businesses, the location is one of the best in the region.

Fujairah is the only UAE emirate with a coastline on the Gulf of Oman, placing it outside the Strait of Hormuz. Import and export operators get direct Indian Ocean access without routing through congested Gulf waters.

The free zone is built around three principles it calls the ACE advantage: Accessibility, Connectivity, and Economy. Setup costs are low, licensing is fast, and the infrastructure is purpose-built for industrial and trade operations.

FFZ is one of the few UAE free zones where maritime, alcohol trading, and tobacco trading licenses are all available alongside standard commercial and industrial categories.

Process

How to Start a Company in Fujairah Free Zone

The process at FFZA is built for speed. Licences can technically be issued within one working day once approvals are in place. In practice, the full journey including visas and banking takes two to three weeks.

Day 1

Define Your Business Activity and Licence Type

Before anything is submitted, confirm which activities your company will carry out and which licence category those fall under. Some activities in FFZ require pre-approval from external regulators. Getting this right first avoids rejection and resubmission.

Days 1 to 2

Choose Your Legal Structure

Decide between FZE, FZC, or a branch structure based on your ownership plan and future needs. For FZE and FZC registrations, the minimum capital of AED 150,000 must be prepared. For branches, the parent company documents are required instead.

Days 2 to 3

Reserve Your Trade Name

Submit your preferred company name for approval through FFZA. The name must comply with UAE naming rules, no offensive terms, no names resembling government bodies, and no restricted terms without prior approval.

Days 3 to 5

Submit Documents and Get Initial Approval

Prepare your full document set including passport copies, photographs, visa or entry stamp copies, business activity details, and for corporate shareholders, the parent company documents. Submit to FFZA for initial approval.

Days 5 to 7

Select and Sign Facility Agreement

Choose your office, warehouse, or land option. Sign the lease agreement with FFZA. This step determines your visa quota and confirms your operational base within the zone.

Days 7 to 10

Pay Fees and Receive Trade Licence and Company Documents

Once the facility agreement is signed and all fees are settled, FFZA issues your trade licence, Certificate of Incorporation, and MOA. For standard cases, licence issuance happens within one working day of final approval.

Weeks 2 to 3

Apply for Establishment Card, Visas, and Open Bank Account

Use your issued licence and company documents to apply for your establishment card. This opens the visa process for investors and employees. Simultaneously, begin your bank account application using the full company document set. RIZ & MONA Consultancy manages both streams in parallel to reduce overall lead time.

Requirements

What Documents Do You Need to Register in Fujairah Free Zone?

Document requirements in FFZA split clearly between individual founders and corporate shareholders. Gather everything before you start. Missing items delay the entire process.

Individual Applicants

  • Passport copy (clear scan of all pages)
  • Passport-size photographs (white background, recent)
  • UAE entry stamp or current UAE visa copy (if applicable)
  • Emirates ID copy (if UAE resident)
  • Proof of residential address (utility bill or bank statement)
  • Detailed CV or business background summary
  • Completed FFZA application and incorporation form
  • Business activity description and plan summary

Corporate Shareholders (FZC / Branch)

  • Certificate of Incorporation of the parent company
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association of the parent company
  • Board Resolution authorising the establishment of the new entity in FFZA
  • Power of Attorney in favour of the signatory (if applicable)
  • Commercial Register or equivalent official document
  • Good Standing Certificate issued within 6 months
  • Passport copies of all directors and shareholders of the parent company
  • Audited financial statements (most recent year)

All corporate documents originating outside the UAE must be notarised in the country of origin and attested by the UAE Embassy or through the Apostille process, depending on the country. Documents in languages other than Arabic or English require a certified translation. FFZA may request additional documents for specific activity types, especially maritime, alcohol, and industrial licences. RIZ & MONA Consultancy reviews your full document set before submission to prevent avoidable rejections.

Residency

What Residency Options Come With an FFZ Company?

Your visa quota in Fujairah Free Zone is tied directly to your facility. A desk setup gives you one or two visas. A warehouse or land holding can support a considerably larger team. The visa process runs through FFZA's immigration desk and uses standard UAE residency procedures.

You do not need to be physically based in Fujairah to hold an FFZ visa. Medical tests and Emirates ID biometrics can be completed in Dubai or other approved centres.

RIZ & MONA Consultancy confirms current quotas and manages the full visa process on your behalf.

  • Investor Visa: Company-sponsored residency for the founder or shareholder
  • Partner Visa: For joint owners of FZC entities
  • Employee Visa: Quota-based, determined by facility size
  • Dependent Visa: For spouse, children, and parents once the primary holder has residency
  • Long-Term / Golden Visa: 10-year, for qualifying investors and specialists

Important Notice

Visa quotas, processing timelines, and eligibility rules are subject to change based on UAE immigration policy and FFZA regulations at the time of application. The figures above are indicative. RIZ & MONA Consultancy confirms current quotas and manages the full visa process on your behalf.

Which Banks Work With FFZ Companies?

Your activity type determines which bank suits you best. Trading and service companies move through faster. Industrial, maritime, and commodities businesses need stronger documentation.

There is no formal FFZ banking partnership, so the right match depends entirely on your profile.

Realistic Bank Account Timelines

  • UAE Resident Applicant

    2-4 weeks

  • Non-Resident Applicant

    6-12 weeks

  • High-Risk or Commodities Business

    8-16 weeks

  • Digital Bank Alternative

    3-7 days

How RIZ & MONA Helps With FFZ Banking

  • Profile Assessment: Our team reviews your business model, activity type, and ownership structure to identify which banks are currently accepting Fujairah Free Zone applications for your category.

  • Bank Matching: We match your company to the right institution based on your licence type, transaction profile, and residency status. We know which banks work well with FFZ trading, industrial, and maritime companies.

  • Documentation and Compliance Preparation: We prepare your banking file the way compliance teams read it, with a clear business narrative, accurate source-of-funds explanation, and expected transaction flows, so your application reads the way the bank expects it to.

  • Applying to a bank before the establishment card is issued causes unnecessary delays.

  • Submitting a business description that does not match the licence activities is a common rejection trigger.

  • Not preparing a source-of-funds explanation for industrial and commodities companies leads to extended compliance reviews.

  • Choosing a premium bank without understanding their minimum balance requirements creates problems after account opening.

  • Ignoring the RAKBANK and digital bank route for non-resident founders who need access fast.
