Free Zone Overview

What Is Fujairah Free Zone?

Fujairah Free Zone (FFZ) is one of the oldest free zones in the UAE. Managed by the Fujairah Free Zone Authority, it sits on the eastern coastline of the country, directly beside the Port of Fujairah. That is not a minor detail. The port is the largest bunkering facility in the world and the second largest container terminal in the UAE after Dubai. Companies registered here sit at the edge of one of the planet's busiest sea corridors.

The emirate of Fujairah is the only one of the seven emirates with a coastline on the Gulf of Oman, placing it outside the Strait of Hormuz. For import and export businesses, oil and gas operators, logistics firms, and manufacturers, this changes the math entirely. You get access to the Indian Ocean without routing through congested Gulf waters.

FFZA has built its reputation on three core principles it calls the ACE advantage: Accessibility, Connectivity, and Economy. The authority has kept setup costs low, licensing timelines fast, and infrastructure purpose-built for industrial and trade operations. Warehouses start at 500 square metres. Industrial land is available on long-term lease. Offices are furnished or bare, depending on your preference.

Beyond logistics, the free zone also hosts branches of major petroleum companies, mining operations, aviation support services, and maritime industries. It is one of the few UAE free zones where a maritime licence, alcohol trading licence, and tobacco trading licence are all available.

Business Benefits

Why Do Serious Traders and Industrialists Keep Choosing FFZ?

The answer is rarely one thing. It is usually the combination of cost, location, and the kinds of licences that other free zones simply do not offer.

  • 100% foreign ownership with no Emirati sponsor required
  • Zero corporate tax for qualifying free zone persons
  • No personal income tax on founder or employee earnings
  • Full repatriation of capital and profits
  • Exemption from import and export duties on all goods within the free zone
  • Licences issued within one working day
  • Direct access to Port of Fujairah and the Indian Ocean shipping routes
  • Fujairah International Airport provides east coast air cargo links
  • Maritime, alcohol, and tobacco trading licences available (rare in UAE free zones)
  • Industrial land available on long-term lease for heavy operations
  • Warehouse units from 500 sq. m with power and cargo handling facilities
  • Flexible desk, shared office, and dedicated office options
  • Companies can hold multiple activities under a single licence
Setup Inclusions

What Is Included When You Register in Fujairah Free Zone?

Setting up here is not just about the licence. What you get with your registration shapes how quickly you can operate and what you can actually do from day one.

Trade Licence

Your licence covers the specific activities approved for your business. Fujairah Free Zone issues licences within one working day after document approval. Activities are listed explicitly on the licence and must match your chosen facility type.

Certificate of Incorporation

Every registered company receives a Certificate of Incorporation as formal proof of its legal existence. This document is required for bank account opening, visa applications, and entering into commercial contracts.

Memorandum and Articles of Association

Your MOA sets out the company's structure, ownership details, and operating rules. FFZA prepares and certifies this as part of the registration process for FZE and FZC structures.

Establishment Card

The establishment card is the company's official immigration card issued by the free zone. You need it before you can apply for any employee or investor visa under the FFZ quota.

Office or Facility Access

Registration includes the lease agreement for your chosen facility. Options range from a serviced desk to a furnished office, a warehouse unit from 500 sq. m, or a long-term industrial land plot.

Visa Quota Allocation

Your visa allocation is determined by the facility type you lease. Desk and small office setups carry a lower quota. Warehouse and land-based facilities support larger teams and higher employee counts.

PRO Services Assistance

FFZA provides coordination with relevant government departments, including immigration, customs, and civil defence. This speeds up approvals for permits and licences that require multi-authority sign-off.

Access to Port and Airport Ecosystem

Registered companies get operational access to the Port of Fujairah and Fujairah International Airport infrastructure. This includes import and export handling, cargo processing, and bunkering services.

Process

How to Register a Company in Fujairah Free Zone

The process at FFZA is built for speed. Licences can technically be issued within one working day once approvals are in place. In practice, the full journey including visas and banking takes two to three weeks.

Day 1

Define Your Business Activity and Licence Type

Before anything is submitted, confirm which activities your company will carry out and which licence category those fall under. Some activities in FFZ require pre-approval from external regulators. Getting this right first avoids rejection and resubmission.

Days 1 to 2

Choose Your Legal Structure

Decide between FZE, FZC, or a branch structure based on your ownership plan and future needs. For FZE and FZC registrations, the minimum capital of AED 150,000 must be prepared. For branches, the parent company documents are required instead.

Days 2 to 3

Reserve Your Trade Name

Submit your preferred company name for approval through FFZA. The name must comply with UAE naming rules, no offensive terms, no names resembling government bodies, and no restricted terms without prior approval.

Days 3 to 5

Submit Documents and Get Initial Approval

Prepare your full document set including passport copies, photographs, visa or entry stamp copies, business activity details, and for corporate shareholders, the parent company documents. Submit to FFZA for initial approval.

Days 5 to 7

Select and Sign Facility Agreement

Choose your office, warehouse, or land option. Sign the lease agreement with FFZA. This step determines your visa quota and confirms your operational base within the zone.

Days 7 to 10

Pay Fees and Receive Trade Licence and Company Documents

Once the facility agreement is signed and all fees are settled, FFZA issues your trade licence, Certificate of Incorporation, and MOA. For standard cases, licence issuance happens within one working day of final approval.

Weeks 2 to 3

Apply for Establishment Card, Visas, and Open Bank Account

Use your issued licence and company documents to apply for your establishment card. This opens the visa process for investors and employees. Simultaneously, begin your bank account application using the full company document set. RIZ & MONA Consultancy manages both streams in parallel to reduce overall lead time.

Requirements

What Documents Do You Need to Register in Fujairah Free Zone?

Document requirements in FFZA split clearly between individual founders and corporate shareholders. Gather everything before you start. Missing items delay the entire process.

Individual Applicants

  • Passport copy (clear scan of all pages)
  • Passport-size photographs (white background, recent)
  • UAE entry stamp or current UAE visa copy (if applicable)
  • Emirates ID copy (if UAE resident)
  • Proof of residential address (utility bill or bank statement)
  • Detailed CV or business background summary
  • Completed FFZA application and incorporation form
  • Business activity description and plan summary

Corporate Shareholders (FZC / Branch)

  • Certificate of Incorporation of the parent company
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association of the parent company
  • Board Resolution authorising the establishment of the new entity in FFZA
  • Power of Attorney in favour of the signatory (if applicable)
  • Commercial Register or equivalent official document
  • Good Standing Certificate issued within 6 months
  • Passport copies of all directors and shareholders of the parent company
  • Audited financial statements (most recent year)

All corporate documents originating outside the UAE must be notarised in the country of origin and attested by the UAE Embassy or through the Apostille process, depending on the country. Documents in languages other than Arabic or English require a certified translation. FFZA may request additional documents for specific activity types, especially maritime, alcohol, and industrial licences. RIZ & MONA Consultancy reviews your full document set before submission to prevent avoidable rejections.

Residency

What Residency Options Come With an FFZ Company?

Your visa quota in Fujairah Free Zone is tied directly to your facility. A desk setup gives you one or two visas. A warehouse or land holding can support a considerably larger team. The visa process runs through FFZA's immigration desk and uses standard UAE residency procedures.

You do not need to be physically based in Fujairah to hold an FFZ visa. Medical tests and Emirates ID biometrics can be completed in Dubai or other approved centres.

RIZ & MONA Consultancy confirms current quotas and manages the full visa process on your behalf.

  • Investor Visa: Company-sponsored residency for the founder or shareholder
  • Partner Visa: For joint owners of FZC entities
  • Employee Visa: Quota-based, determined by facility size
  • Dependent Visa: For spouse, children, and parents once the primary holder has residency
  • Long-Term / Golden Visa: 10-year, for qualifying investors and specialists

Important Notice

Visa quotas, processing timelines, and eligibility rules are subject to change based on UAE immigration policy and FFZA regulations at the time of application. The figures above are indicative. RIZ & MONA Consultancy confirms current quotas and manages the full visa process on your behalf.

Opening a Bank Account for Your Fujairah Free Zone Company

Banks in the UAE treat Fujairah Free Zone companies differently depending on your activity. Trading and service companies generally face a straightforward process. Industrial, maritime, and commodities businesses require stronger documentation and a clearer business story. The zone itself has no formal banking partnership, so the right bank depends entirely on your profile.

  • Applying to a bank before the establishment card is issued causes unnecessary delays.
  • Submitting a business description that does not match the licence activities is a common rejection trigger.
  • Not preparing a source-of-funds explanation for industrial and commodities companies leads to extended compliance reviews.
  • Choosing a premium bank without understanding their minimum balance requirements creates problems after account opening.
  • Ignoring the RAKBANK and digital bank route for non-resident founders who need access fast.
  • Banks operate independently of FFZA and make their own decisions. Free zone registration does not guarantee bank account approval. RIZ & MONA Consultancy supports your application with preparation, matching, and follow-up but cannot guarantee any bank's decision.
The FFZ Difference

The ACE Advantage: What Makes Fujairah Free Zone Different from Every Other Zone in the UAE

01
Port of Fujairah

The World's Largest Bunkering Port at Your Gate

Port of Fujairah handles more ship refuelling operations than any other port on earth. For oil and gas businesses, marine supply companies, and commodity traders, being registered inside the adjacent free zone means you are steps away from one of the most active maritime facilities in the world. FFZA companies have direct operational access to the port's infrastructure, a position that cannot be replicated from Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

02
Fujairah International Airport

The Only East Coast International Airport in the UAE

Fujairah International Airport serves the UAE's entire east coast and acts as the primary air gateway for northern Oman. For businesses moving cargo between Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and the Gulf, the airport provides an air freight option that avoids the congestion of Dubai International. It is particularly useful for time-sensitive industrial parts, pharmaceutical exports, and perishable commodities.

03
Specialised Licences

Licences That No Other UAE Free Zone Offers

FFZA is one of the very few free zones in the country where a maritime licence, alcohol trading licence, and tobacco trading licence can be issued under the same regulatory framework. These are not niche edge cases. They represent entire industries that have no legal home in most other zones. If your business sits in any of these categories, Fujairah Free Zone is often the only viable UAE free zone option.

04
The Mountain Economy

Mining and Quarrying Infrastructure Backed by Geography

More than 70% of the Emirate of Fujairah is mountainous terrain. The Hajar Mountains run through the region and hold commercially significant mineral and rock deposits. FFZA actively supports companies in mining, quarrying, and rock processing with land allocation, infrastructure access, and licensing frameworks that match the operational needs of extraction-based industries. This is a sector virtually absent from all UAE free zones outside Fujairah.

05
GCC Oil Storage Capital

The Largest Oil Storage Capacity in the GCC

Fujairah holds the largest oil storage capacity in the GCC. Dozens of global petroleum companies have established their regional branch offices inside or adjacent to FFZ because the storage infrastructure and port access make it the most cost-effective hub for oil and petroleum product export in the Middle East. If energy, petrochemicals, or commodities are part of your business, this concentration of sector expertise and infrastructure is a real operational advantage.

Business Setup Process

Why Founders Setting Up in Fujairah Free Zone Work With RIZ & MONA Consultancy

Our Advantage

1

We Know What FFZA Wants Before You Submit

Fujairah Free Zone has a specific document and activity review process. We have guided clients through it enough times to know exactly what the authority looks for and what gets sent back. You submit once, not twice.

2

Your Bank Account Is Not an Afterthought

FFZ's location and activity types attract commodities and industrial businesses that banks scrutinise more closely. We prepare your banking file the way compliance teams read it, with a clear business narrative, accurate source-of-funds explanation, and the right bank match for your activity profile.

3

Visa Coordination That Runs in Parallel

Most consultancies handle visa applications after the licence is issued. We start the preparation process earlier, so your establishment card, entry permit, and medical appointments are lined up the moment your documents are ready. Less waiting. More operating.

4

We Handle the Complexity of Specialised Licences

Maritime, alcohol, and tobacco licences in Fujairah require external approvals and additional documentation that standard free zone setups do not. Our team knows which authorities are involved, what they expect, and how to move those applications through without unnecessary back-and-forth.
